Whether it’s colleagues, in-laws, you best friend, or that neighbor that always seems to drop by chances are you entertain in the home. Read on to find out my favorite tips for creating an interior that not only supports entertaining but is a space you’re proud to share with friends and family.
Mix it Up
Just as you might invite a variety of people to encourage lively conversation, provide your guests with a variety of seating options. Some guest may want a perching spot for sampling the hors d’oeuvres, others may want a more comfortable seat so they can sit and chat for a longer period of time. Placing food and beverage in a couple of areas will promote circulation and mingling.
Create Conversation Zones
Now that you have a variety of seating options – arrange them in a way that promotes conversation.
Consider clusters that allow for groups of 2-4 people to converse. Remember, the way you have your furniture day to day can easily be mixed up and put back together after the party is over.

Light & Shade
No one wants the spot where the light glares in. Ensure you have proper shade control for daytime events. Conversely, create a soft glow during evening events. Turn down the overhead lights (too harsh), turn on the table lamps, and light a few candles. Your guest will silently thank you for the flattering light sources.
Elevate the Everyday
Well-designed serving stations, whether it be spread out on a beautiful sideboard or Mad-Men inspired bar cart, adds a special something to any event. Pull out the beautiful tablecloth you’ve been saving, mix with a unique vase and add some fresh flowers. Don’t be afraid to combine styles and colors for an “I didn’t try too hard (but it still looks fabulous) feel”.
